Tongits
The Classic Filipino Card Game!
Game Overview
Tongits is the quintessential Filipino card game that has been a beloved pastime in the Philippines for generations. This elegant three-player card game combines strategy, skill, and a bit of luck, making it a favorite among Filipino families and friends who gather to enjoy competitive matches. At PH Login, we've brought this classic game to the digital realm, allowing players to experience authentic Tongits gameplay anytime, anywhere.
The game is played with a standard 52-card deck, and the objective is to be the first player to form valid combinations - either sets (three or four cards of the same rank) or runs (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit). The player who successfully melds all their cards first wins the round, earning points based on the cards remaining in opponents' hands.
What makes Tongits particularly exciting is the balance between offense and defense. Players must carefully decide when to draw cards, when to meld their combinations, and when to "sapaw" (add cards to opponents' melded combinations). This strategic depth keeps the game engaging round after round, with each hand presenting new challenges and opportunities.
How to Play Tongits
Number of Players
Tongits is traditionally played by 3 players using a standard 52-card deck. Each player receives 13 cards at the start of the game.
Objective
Be the first player to meld (lay down) all your cards in valid combinations - either sets of 3-4 cards of the same rank, or runs of 3+ consecutive cards in the same suit.
Game Flow
Each turn, draw one card from either the face-down deck or the face-up discard pile. Then, either meld valid combinations or discard one card. The round ends when a player melds all cards or when the deck is exhausted.
Winning
Round points are calculated based on the cards remaining in opponents' hands. The first player to reach the target score (usually 1000 points) wins the game!

Tongits Strategies
Master Tongits with these essential strategies:
Watch the Discard Pile
Keep track of cards opponents discard - they might be signaling what combinations they're building or trying to form.
Prioritize Pairs
Try to form pairs early - they can easily become sets and are valuable for blocking opponents' potential runs.
Strategic Sapaw
Adding cards to opponents' melds (sapaw) can be strategic - it reduces your card count while potentially helping yourself later.
Know When to Draw
Drawing from the discard pile can be risky if opponents are watching - sometimes the deck offers better options.
